Smart Transformers for Smarter Cities

As the pace of smart city construction continues to accelerate, smart transformers are becoming an essential component of urban power systems. Recently, Shanghai Electric Power Company announced the citywide promotion and deployment of smart transformers to enhance the intelligence and operational efficiency of the power grid.

In addition to the basic functions of traditional transformers, smart transformers integrate advanced sensors and communication modules, enabling real-time collection and transmission of power data. By leveraging big data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, smart transformers can accurately predict and dynamically adjust power loads, effectively reducing energy waste and improving overall energy efficiency.

Mr. Wang Qiang, General Manager of Shanghai Electric Power Company, stated: "The application of smart transformers will provide more reliable and efficient power support for our smart city. We plan to achieve full citywide coverage of smart transformers within the next five years, driving the intelligent upgrade of the urban power system."

Furthermore, smart transformers are equipped with fault self-diagnosis and remote maintenance capabilities, which can significantly reduce power system maintenance costs and outage time, while enhancing the overall power consumption experience for users.
